Electric Callboy + Bury Tomorrow
Alexandra Palace, 11th November 2024
This sold-out show was probably Electric Callboy's largest UK Headline to date, with Ally Pally's 10,250 capacity doubling that of the Hammersmith Apollo's ~5,000, which they played on the Tekkno tour in 2023.
Wargasm opened, but I wasn't able to get there early enough to see them :(
Bury Tomorrow
I love it when a venue is already full to the brim when a support act comes on. There was some excellent djenty/proggy widdling on the guitar, and they really got the crowd going. This is one of the bands where I like the majority of the music but the style of shouty vocals isn't for me.
Bury Tomorrow
Electric Callboy
This band is such great fun to see live. They play well, had a large amount of pyrotechnics and confetti, and are entertaining between the tracks too!
Before they even came on stage, the playlist was Hardstyle remixes of rock tracks (think Scooter-meets-Green Day). In most situations that would be a bit of an… acquired taste, lets say, but I can't think of a better place for it than preceding a band that combines both genres.
Electric Callboy - Tanzneid: Opening the show with a bang!
This band has about as many outfit changes as Lady Gaga, so there were little breaks here and there with either an instrumental number, or video playing on the screen. This meant that when I spotted Kevin walking through the crowd right in front of me it really took me by surprise–the time it took them to get from stage to front-of-house wasn't noticeable at all!
They did a short set with piano and acoustic guitar from within the crowd. Everyone nearby who could was sitting down, I was right up against the barrier enclosing the front-of-house tech so I only had space to stand.
The other surprise from them was when they said something along the lines of "you can't be on stage at Ally Pally without throwing some darts" and brought out a dart board. Alexandra Palace has been the home of The World Darts Championship since the mid-2000s. While I got the reference, I do wonder how many other people in the crowd did!
I think my favourite part was them playing RATATATA, as I've only just seen Babymetal play their half of the track at the O2 Arena a few weeks earlier!
